The urban-ecological project is governed by the comprehensive regeneration of the Old Town, accompanied by the city’s urbanistic transformation and evolution. This comprehensive regeneration is aimed at its material and cultural conservation and restoration, capable of preserving its harmony and beauty as a large public space characterised by monumentality, but also as a social, cultural and economically active space. This project falls within the context of territorial planning, taking into account the preservation and upgrading of natural and scenic resources and the improvement of environmental quality.
The provision of urban parks conceived as public spaces is designed to create meeting places that serve to promote social cohesion and interaction, which is required by the neighbourhoods surrounding leisure areas. The parks of San Domingos de Bonaval, Belvís, Galeras or Simeón are examples of such initiatives.
